Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

SRE at Cheltenham Girls' High School 

At Cheltenham Girls’ High School, SRE is delivered.

  • Thursday A from 9:40 - 10:40 am for Years 10 - 12 
  • Thursday B from 9:40 - 10:40 am for Years 7 - 9.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given, via email, to:

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in reading, private study or completing homework.

Cheltenham Girls’ High school offers a variety of Special Religious Education Groups (SRE) within the school. The SRE classes are run each week on Thursday mornings. The Special Religious Education Letter is included in the enrolment package for every student. There is also a copy provided below Voluntary Student Activities of a Religious Nature. (VSA) Students may wish to participate in the following groups which are usually held during lunchtimes. • Revolution - Christian group • Islamic prayer group Students who wish to participate in these groups must provide permission from their parents in writing. permission notes should be given to the Head Teacher Wellbeing.
